National Nutrition Agency (BGN) is taking steps to boost local employment by hiring workers for the Nutritional Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) from those living in extreme poverty. Redy Hendra Gunawan, a Special Staff at BGN, disclosed that a minimum of 30% of the staff in each SPPG will be chosen from disadvantaged backgrounds, in line with the President’s directive to ensure the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Program supports job creation. Presently, there are 2,378 SPPG units established in collaboration with 6,076 local economic institutions, with 93,572 community members volunteering for the initiative. The MBG Program has reached over 7.4 million individuals nationwide, including students, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, toddlers, and more. In a bid to expand the program’s coverage, BGN intends to launch an additional 2,401 SPPG units within the next 10 days, with the aim of serving around 15 million beneficiaries. This move demonstrates a significant effort to bolster job opportunities and address nutritional requirements in underprivileged communities.
