President Prabowo Subianto will inaugurate the Koperasi Desa/Kelurahan Merah Putih (Village/Urban Cooperative “Merah Putih”) on July 21, 2025. This initiative is part of the President’s Asta Cita to revitalize local economies and alleviate poverty from the grassroots level.
Head of Presidential Communications, Hasan Nasbi, stated that Kopdes Merah Putih is part of the government’s trident of poverty eradication strategy, which includes health, education, and socio-economic development programs. These initiatives aim to bring tangible welfare improvements to communities.
The Kopdes Merah Putih program, launched through Presidential Instruction No. 9 of 2025, focuses on building the national economy from the village level to reduce inequality and uplift communities from poverty. Thirteen ministries, two national agencies, governors, mayors, regents, and village heads are involved in its implementation.
With 80,000 Kopdes to be launched, 103 cooperatives will serve as model prototypes to be replicated in other villages. These cooperatives aim to strengthen rural economies, improve food security, eliminate illegal lending operations, and support local businesses.
The program places a special focus on farmers, aiming to cut out exploitative intermediaries by purchasing agricultural products directly. By establishing cooperative offices, food outlets, savings and loan units, healthcare services, and logistics hubs, the initiative seeks to provide essential goods, financial services, and healthcare to rural communities efficiently.
