President Prabowo Subianto has always had a deep connection with farmers, as revealed by Dedek Prayudi, Senior Expert at the Presidential Communication Office (PCO). This relationship stems from two significant moments in Prabowo’s life, starting from his time as a military officer, where local communities and farmers provided him with essential assistance. The second moment was when he led the Indonesian Farmers Harmony Association (HKTI).
During the grand corn harvest for the Food Security Program in Jenggalu Village, Seluma Regency, Bengkulu Province, Uki emphasized the importance of the program. He highlighted the critical need for food security, especially with the current global situation that requires Indonesia to reduce its dependence on foreign food supplies. Uki mentioned that if major food-producing countries were to halt exports, global food prices would increase, impacting Indonesia.
The successful corn harvest, producing about 10 tons from 1.5 hectares, showcased the government’s support through subsidized fertilizers, pesticides, and agricultural machinery. Uki expressed the hope for continued growth in cultivated areas and yields, motivating farmers further. He also urged the village head to expedite administrative requirements for accessing subsidized fertilizers, as only 47 percent of the allocation had been utilized by August.
Kelik Budianan from the National Food Agency (Pusdatin Bapanas) affirmed support for President Prabowo’s initiative. Collaborating with the State Logistics Agency (Bulog), they aim to absorb farmers’ corn harvests while integrating supply chains for farmers and livestock breeders. This integration ensures favorable prices for both crops and livestock, benefiting the community overall, as emphasized by Kelik in the presence of local officials and stakeholders.
